Contaminated Solid Surfaces – Small Visible Powder / Trace Amounts

(No More Than Pencil Eraser Size)

Scope: SoRite® DECON recognizes visible powder incidents as a moderate risk to law enforcement
personnel that may result in accidental exposure to dangerous opioids and other contaminants. These
directions will ensure that SoRite DECON LEO Kits are properly utilized to perform risk reduction
measures that will reduce the threat to law enforcement officers of accidental exposure to dangerous opioids
and limit secondary contamination. You must adhere to department specific Standard Operating Procedures
pertaining to such incidents involving powders that may be known or unknown to the law enforcement
officers.

                    1. All personnel shall don, at a minimum, nitrile gloves, N-95 mask, and eye protection.
                    2. The law enforcement officer will remove a SoRite pre-treated towelette from the kit.
                    3. The law enforcement officer will gently lay the towelette over the visible powder in a way to limit
                      powder from becoming airborne.
                    4. Slight pressure shall be applied using a gloved hand to towelette over the powder.
                    5. Using a bag on valve can, thoroughly wet the towelette and surrounding area. Wetter the better.
                    6. Allow the towelette to stay in place leaving the affected surface wet for a minimum of 60 seconds.
                    7. Once 60 seconds have elapsed or longer, with a gloved hand pinch the towelette ends together over the
                      heaviest area of contamination.
                    8. Bag and seal the affected towelette and gloves in the supplied disposal bags.
                    9. Don a new pair of nitrile gloves.
                    10. Utilizing a can of SoRite DECON ready-to-use spray, apply an application to the affected area by
depressing the applicator and allowing the SoRite DECON solution to rain down on the affected area.
Do not spray directly at the powder. Doing so can cause particulates to go airborne, increasing
                      accidental exposure risks.
                    11. Wet thoroughly.
                    12. The surface shall remain wet for a minimum of 60 seconds.
                    13. Once 60 seconds have elapsed, the area shall be wiped clean utilizing a supplied microfiber towel or can
                      be left to dry.
                    14. Bag and seal the used microfiber towel.
                    15. Once gross contamination has been removed, follow the directions for general maintenance of a law
                      enforcement vehicle.
                    16. All used microfiber towels, towelettes, and PPE shall be placed into the provided disposal bags and
                      sealed.
                    17. All microfiber towels, wipes, and PPE shall be disposed of in accordance with local, state, and federal
                      guidelines.

Contaminated Surfaces – Small Visible Powder with Descendant

Scope: SoRite Decon recognizes visible powder incidents as a moderate risk to entry personnel. The incident
becomes more complex when an individual is deceased at the scene and will require decontamination before the
body can be transferred to the corner. The scope of this standard operating procedure is to ensure the proper
utilization of personal protective equipment (PPE) and SoRite Decon solution to perform technical decon of the
affected area, descendant, and personnel.

                    1. All personnel shall be trained to the level of the incident.
                    2. Any incident shall utilize the (3) hazmat corridors: hot, warm, and cold zones. All entrants and decon
personnel shall don the appropriate PPE. PPE determination is made by the authority having jurisdiction
(AHJ). It is imperative that a decon plan exists prior to any entry into the HOT zone.
                    3. Emergency procedures and equipment shall be reviewed prior to any entry into the hot zone. Consider
having Narcan available in the event of personnel exposure.
                    4. Discuss with law enforcement of evidence procedures should any samples of raw material need to be
                      kept prior to entry.
                    5. If the material that is involved in the incident is an unknown substance, the entry team shall utilize a
multi-drug test kit to identify the material. If there is a positive result for fentanyl or heroin, SoRite
Decon shall be utilized to eradicate the hazards of the substance.
                    6. Care should be taken to prevent unknown substances from becoming airborne.
                    7. Utilizing the rain down method, SoRite Decon will be applied to the affected surface areas. Once wet,
thoroughly wet the substance by holding the applicator 6-8 inches from the surface.
                    8. Allow the surface to remain wet for at least 60 seconds.
                    9. Once 60 seconds have elapsed, entrants shall utilize a SoRite Decon wipe to wipe down the affected
surface. Allow the surface to air dry.
                    10. Once the surface is dry, test the surface for contamination using a drug specific test.
                    11. All testing equipment and wipes shall be placed into a bag for later disposal.
                    12. Once contaminated surfaces within the structure have been decontaminated, SoRite Decon shall be
utilized to thoroughly wet the descendant and their clothing. After 60 seconds the clothing shall be
removed and bagged for disposal. SoRite shall then be applied to the body of the descendant.
                    13. Once 60 seconds have elapsed, the body shall be moved to the decon line and rinsed off using water.
                    14. Once deconned the body shall be dried and is deemed safe to be turned over to the corner.
                    15. Once the contaminated surfaces and the descendant have been deemed decontaminated, entry personnel
should spray SoRite Decon on their gloves and boots. A SoRite Decon wipe is acceptable as well.
                    16.  Entry personnel shall then report to decon.
                    17. Entry personnel shall drop all equipment in the drop zone prior to entering technical decon.
                    18. Using a sprayer and rain down method, SoRite Decon shall be applied to entry personnel beginning at
the head and working all the way down to their boots. Extra care should be given to high contact points
                      such as gloves and boots.
                    19. The PPE of the entry team shall remain wet with SoRite Decon for at least 60 seconds prior to the PPE
                      being doffed.
                    20. All PPE shall be bagged and disposed of according to local, state, and federal guidelines.
